he National Civil Service Agency (BKN) is using a detector to prevent talismans being used in a month-long competency test of civil servant candidates at Tasikmalaya city hall in West Java that started on Saturday.
Bandung BKN head Imas Sukmariah said she had reviewed the implementation of the detection system on the first day of the test. The detection uses "sophisticated" equipment that is capable of scanning for metals and foreign objects, including talismans.
“We've checked all [of the test participants] and no one entered the room with any [suspicious] objects, including talismans,” said Imas, as quoted by Antara news agency.
She went on to say that 51,875 candidates were taking the test in Tasikmalaya. The test runs until Feb. 27.
All participants are from administrative areas in East Priangan namely Tasikmalaya, Banjar, Ciamis, Garut and Pangandaran.
The test is based on a computer assisted test (CAT) that can reduce the potential for fraud or manipulation.
In regard to the use of talismans, Imas advised the test participants to avoid any engagement with irresponsible individuals, who promised them to pass the test.
“Don’t believe people who promise you will pass the test,” she said.
Imas further said that besides the computerized system, the test was guaranteed to be transparent and accountable. All of the questions were designed by a consortium of 18 universities and are protected by the National Code Institute.
Imas encouraged candidates to study and pray to advance to the next stage of the enrollment test. (syk)
