F

ormer Bank Indonesia (BI) senior deputy governor Mirza Adityaswara has been appointed the president commissioner and independent commissioner of securities firm PT Mandiri Sekuritas, the company announced on Wednesday.

The economist, who is replacing Darwin Cyril Noerhadi at the Bank Mandiri subsidiary, said in a statement that he sought to improve Mandiri Sekuritas’ performance, adding that the commissioners there would continue to evaluate performance and provide guidance on business development and risk management.

“The board of commissioners is committed to supervising and assisting the company in a bid to strengthen Mandiri Sekuritas’ role in Indonesia’s financial market, as well as in regional and international markets through good management and sustainable business orientation,” Mirza said on Wednesday.

Mandiri Sekuritas, the country's most active brokerage house by transaction value, booked 11,000 new customers in the retail segment during the first four months of the year. Currently, the company has more than 133,000 retail customers, of whom 90 percent invest online.

The company this year has recorded a total transaction value of Rp 95.1 trillion (US$6.59 billion), up 11.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

Mirza has worked at several securities firms and banks, including as the chief economist at Bank Mandiri and director at Mandiri Sekuritas since 2008 before being appointed commissioner of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) in 2010. He was also the central bank’s senior deputy governor from 2013 to August 2019.
