eauty e-commerce firm Social Bella has expanded its distribution network to 55,000 retailers, through its partnership with PT Semesta Distribusi Indonesia (SDI), the company announced on Wednesday.

The partnership is expected to open wider and more comprehensive distribution access for Social Bella retail partners and customers, providing a one-stop service for beauty and self-care brand owners.

"We see a gap between brand owners and retailers. Brand owners have high-quality products but lack a distribution network. Meanwhile, retailers are looking for quality brands and struggle to gain consumer data," said PT SDI commercial vice president Helmi Prasetyo in a statement on Wednesday.

SDI currently has offices in 24 cities, 16 sales points and 10 sub-distributors throughout the country, with retail partners both in modern trade and general trade.

Social Bella provides a platform for customers to purchase goods, file complaints as well as view product updates and promotions in real-time.

"With the SDI network and our experience in the beauty industry, brand owners can distribute their products to all retail store channels in big cities in Indonesia without having to make big investments and take big risks in choosing a suitable store without benchmarking," Helmi said.

He added that PT SDI has helped the distribution of well-known brands on the Social Bella platform such as Mediheal, COSRX and Secret Key, among others in Indonesia.

Helmi said he was optimistic that SDI could be a solution for the beauty industry in Indonesia to advance. Moreover, he said he saw the large potential of the beauty industry, as well as the resilience of the industry, which has been proven in times of crisis.

According to Euromonitor International's 2020 report, the compound annual growth rate of Indonesia's beauty industry is the highest in Asia.

The report also stated that the beauty and personal care market in Indonesia was predicted to grow to US$8.46 billion in 2022 from $6.03 billion last year.

Social Bella recently announced in July that it has closed a $58 million funding round and launched Lilla by Sociolla, a marketplace for expecting women and mothers. (eyc)
