even foreign envoys presented their letters of credence to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Wednesday, marking the official start of their ambassadorial duties in Indonesia.

All are resident ambassadors, including United States Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Yong Kim, Italian Ambassador Benedetto Latteri, Cambodian Ambassador Iv Heang and South Korean Ambassador Taesung Park.

The three others are Austrian Ambassador Johannes Peterlik, Panamanian Ambassador Manuel Antonio and Danish Ambassador Lars Bo Larsen.

The new envoys submitted their letters one by one to the Indonesian President in a ceremony that was held under strict coronavirus protocols at Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Wednesday morning.

President Jokowi and all the attendees wore face masks and maintained physical distance.

Breaking from tradition, Jokowi did not shake hands with the envoys while receiving the letters so as to minimize the risk of coronavirus transmission.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung attended the ceremony. (nal)
