Jakarta Police to ‘provide facts’ as Komnas HAM probes fatal shooting

akarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Fadil Imran says the force will be transparent and provide facts to support an investigation by the National Commission on Humans Rights (Komnas HAM) into the fatal shooting of six Islam Defenders Front (FPI) members by police officers.
Fadil came to the Komnas HAM office on Monday to fulfill the latter’s summons and provide information regarding the incident.
Speaking to reporters after around two hours of questioning, he said he would help Komnas HAM conduct an accountable investigation. The police, Fadil said, would be transparent in the probe.
“We will provide facts based on a scientific crime investigation. We don’t want to build a [false] narrative,” he said as reported by tempo.co.

Komnas HAM chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik said Fadil had provided information, data and evidence during the questioning. However, he declined to reveal the evidence provided by the police, as the probe was ongoing.
“Komnas HAM will continue with all stages of investigation,” he said.
The commission started the investigation following mounting calls from the public and rights activists for an independent investigation to shed light on the Dec. 7 shooting.
Besides Fadil, the commission also questioned the president director of state-owned toll road operator Jasa Marga Subakti Syukur to ask him about the CCTV cameras at KM 50 of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, where the alleged altercation between FPI members and the Police took place.

Subakti said that all the CCTV cameras, a total of 277, along the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road were functioning. However, 23 CCTV spots from Kilometer 49 to 72 that may have recorded the alleged shooting were reportedly affected by network disruption.
“There was some interference in the CCTV and data transmission,” he said, adding that the network had gone back to normal after 24 hours, tribunnews.com reported.
