Indonesia's COVID-19 death toll has surpassed 100,000 fatalities on Wednesday, data from Health Ministry says.
Indonesia reported 35,867 new coronavirus cases and 1,747 new deaths, the report showed, bringing the total number of cases and deaths to 3.532 million and 100,636 deaths, respectively.
Globally, The Johns Hopkins University shows that the cumulative death tally for COVID-19 is 4,247,333 as of Wednesday afternoon, from the total number of 199,628,827 cases.
However, given the inconsistent and underreported COVID-19 data collection since the beginning of the outbreak last year, the number of deaths is thought to be the only reliable marker for demonstrating the true scale of the pandemic in the country.
Concerns have been mounting that the figures reported from the regions could be much higher, with the government not including deaths outside of healthcare facilities in its daily official tally.
