Land ownership information is already included in the e-STDB system, and Indonesia recognizes various types of land ownership.
would like to offer some clarification regarding the article titled "Addressing gaps in Indonesia's national commodity dashboard and EUDR", published by The Jakarta Post on Sept. 4, 2024.
As part of the Technical Committee for the National Dashboard, I am directly involved in the technical aspects of the development of the National Commodity Dashboard. In this capacity, I feel it is necessary to address some inaccuracies presented in the article.
The article says that there is no "cut-off date" in Indonesia's Integrated System for Electronic Cultivation (e-STDB) and Plantation Licensing Information System (SIPERIBUN). In reality, these systems do include information on planting dates, which are used to classify whether certain areas are European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) compliant based on the established cut-off date.
Regarding Article 3 of the EUDR, land ownership information is already included in the e-STDB system, and Indonesia recognizes various types of land ownership. The statistics presented, such as that only 1 percent of oil palm farmers have received e-STDB certificates, are misleading.
The data should be based on the total number of farmers and the area they represent, considering that Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of palm oil.
