Fitness culture goes into overdrive for Hyrox Jakarta 2026

Ahead of Indonesia’s first official Hyrox race in June, urban professionals and “gym rats” alike are reorganizing their routines around the fitness competition quickly gaining both hype and popularity.

n late April at a gym in Senayan, Central Jakarta, Adi Perkasa powered across the floor with a 20-kilogram sandbag on his shoulders, lunging through one of the signature movements of Hyrox, the global fitness race that is rapidly gaining momentum in major cities across the archipelago.

Its rapid rise reflects a broader shift in urban fitness culture, particularly in Jakarta, where gym-goers are shifting from conventional weight training or recreational running to all-around workouts that combine endurance and strength.

For Adi, 31, Hyrox marked a milestone he never imagined possible.

Born with a congenital heart valve defect, he began exercising with medical supervision in 2024 before gradually trying swimming and yoga, eventually completing his first half marathon last year. His search for a new challenge led him to Hyrox.

“Hyrox became the peak of it all. I feel stronger each and every day,” he said.

The sport has a similar appeal for content creator Vinnie Hasan, 27, who comes from a different athletic background. After years of weight training, Hyrox has forced her to develop aerobic endurance, an area she had largely neglected before.
