View all search resultsRecent research has shown that many members of the public in Jakarta and East Java assume they are immune to COVID-19 or even doubt there is a pandemic at all, COVID-19 task force chief Doni Monardo has said.
"So far 57 media workers have tested positive for COVID-19 through PCR [polymerase chain reaction] tests. We also found six people whose rapid test results were reactive,” AJI Surabaya head Miftah Faridl told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
East Java, now the epicenter of Indonesia's coronavirus outbreak, is battling COVID-19 on several fronts, including overwhelmed hospitals, transmission among medical workers and the majority of its residents flouting the health protocols.
Two mobile testing labs had been loaned for use in Surabaya – the epicenter of the outbreak in East Java – but they were taken over by the province’s COVID-19 task force and sent to Lamongan and Tulungagung regencies instead.
COVID-19 patients at the Slamet Martodirjo regional hospital in Pamekasan, East Java, have demanded to be allowed to celebrate Idul Fitri at home with their families, with some resorting to extreme measures.
