Indonesia’s leading badminton club, PB Djarum, has decided to halt its annual general audition following a deadlock in discussions with the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) over the commission’s objection to the use of the Djarum cigarette brand on the participants’ shirts.
“During the arrests, the members’ wives and children were also brought to the office [of a private company involved in the land dispute] and had to watch their husbands or fathers being tortured. They are traumatized, scared and worried about the condition of their children [who were later separated from the parents],” Adriana Venny from Komnas Perempuan said.
Police dismissed the suspects’ claim of consensual sexual relations between them and the three students since the victims had confessed that each of them was not in a relationship with the suspects.
