View all search resultsThe Destructive Fishing Watch (DFW) has called on the Indonesian government to increase patrols around the country's outermost islands in the North Natuna Sea of Riau, following reports of rampant illegal fishing by foreign fishers over the past few months.
A Chinese coast guard ship that entered Indonesia's exclusive economic zone was detected by an Indonesian Maritime Security Agency patrol ship on Saturday. The Chinese ship insisted it had the right to patrol the area.
As such, the norm dictates that navies are best tasked with preparing for fighting wars and deterring foreign aggression, while a national coast guard is responsible for law enforcement and safety and security in a national maritime territory.
