Finding the true meaning of Idul Fitri through the COVID-19 pandemic
Idul Fitri in 2020, or the year 1441 in the Islamic calendar, may well be far less festive and far less commercialized, but it is not necessarily going to be less spiritual. It will likely be more serene and solemn – the way we should truly celebrate the end of Ramadan.

How many more Ramadans do we need to humanize Quran?
Humanizing the Quran means using Islam’s holy book as divine legitimation to worship God by acting kindly toward fellow humans. If we obey the Quran’s order, for instance, to fast but are unable to treat others, particularly religious or gender minorities, with love and compassion, then we no doubt fail to humanize the message. Allah needs nothing from us, not even our worship. To love God means to love and be compassionate to His creatures.

Keep up generosity beyond Ramadan
Indonesia, as the country with the world’s largest Muslim population, has been among the 10 most generous nations over 10 years. Interestingly, Indonesia is the only country in the top 10 to have improved its scores over recent years, with the others on a downward trajectory. The report suggests this trend relates to the Islamic practice of traditional redistribution, namely zakat (alms), which also supports efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
