In addition to concerts, art performances, harvest festivals, walk and bike events, competitions, bazaars, blood donation drives and commemoration of parties’ anniversaries are among the activities permitted during campaigns.
Like other candidates running in next year’s gubernatorial election, incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama has started his campaign with blusukan (impromptu visits) to residential areas, a legacy of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in how he approached Jakartans when he led the capital.
The election campaign started on Friday, but Jakarta’s gubernatorial candidates continue to move slowly, as though they want to conserve their energy for what promises to be a dramatic and lengthy campaign. The campaign period lasts from Oct. 28 to Feb. 11, 2017, and voting day is scheduled for Feb. 15, 2017.
The Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPUD Jakarta) and representatives of the city's three gubernatorial candidate pairs will discuss on Wednesday the schedule for the campaign period, which will run from Oct. 28 to Feb. 11, prior to the Jakarta election on Feb. 15, 2017.
