Research organization Perkumpulan Prakasa has revealed that the Indonesian government has lost about US$11 million in state revenue as $142.07 billion worth of key commodities was exported illegally from 1989 to 2017.
Gold and copper miner PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has set a lower copper concentrate production target of 1.2 million tons – 800,000 tons less than last year's output of 2.1 million tons – to accommodate its transition from an open pit to underground mining operation, an energy official has said.
The study, which was published in the journal Science Advances on Dec. 1 was lead by professor Sun Jian. The research team from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Liaoning, blasted copper atoms off from a copper target using an electrically charged argon gas.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan has said the enormous copper reserves in the Grasberg Mine in Papau will deliver large profits for Indonesia, after the country signed an agreement to gain control of the majority share of gold and copper miner PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI).
