The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) saw its budget for 2026 slashed to Rp 491 billion (US$29.1 million) from Rp 2 trillion in 2025, while the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) only got Rp 1.4 trillion for this year.
The report’s World Risk Index, which included all 193 member states of the United Nations for the first time, assesses disaster risks by evaluating each country’s ‘exposure to natural hazards, the susceptibility of the population, and the coping and adaptive capacities of societies.’
The Jakarta administration has promised to allocate enough funds for flood control and won’t allow for more funds to be siphoned off, after city funding this year was redirected to help the nation deal with the pandemic.
