he city of Semarang in Central Java is famous for its spring rolls and historic sites, such as the Lawang Sewu landmark and the Old Town district.
However, over the past two years, another tourist attraction called the Jatibarang Reservoir has captivated locals and tourists alike.
Occupying an area of 189 hectares in Gunungpati Semarang district, the reservoir offers a stunning view of the surrounding hills.

The entrance fee is quite cheap, just Rp 2,500 (less than 50 cents) per person. Visitors can rent a boat for Rp 100,000 to circle around the area. Those who love fishing will find themselves in Shangri-la as there are plenty of big fish swimming under the crystal clear waters of the reservoir.
In the middle of the area, there are the Kreo Caves that have become a breeding ground for 500 long-tailed monkeys.
Even though it is located on the outskirts of town, traveling to Jatibarang Reservoir is not that difficult.
Jatibarang Reservoir was officially opened on May 11, 2015, after four years of construction.
The reservoir is used to generate electricity and prevent floods. (kes)
