British Airways announced on Monday that it would board passengers based on the price of their tickets, starting from Dec. 12.
The highest paying passengers will be allowed to board the airplane first, while the lowest paying passengers will have to wait till last. According to Business Insider, the procedure is common in the United States, but not common in Europe.

Twitter was abuzz with people proclaiming the new procedures would promote a class-based system.
Flying BA? Bought the cheapest European ticket? From 12 Dec, you'll be last to board the plane

People are shocked British Airways wants to divide its passengers into classes? Sounds pretty British to me. https://t.co/rKV8FnETKC

In my experience @British_Airways service is now worse than #budget without budget prices and customer services make complaining as hard as possible, abrogate responsibility & offer regulatory minimum at best, whilst showing mock concern. #BritishAirways @Flight_Refunds

A spokesperson for the airline told the BBC the new system would help speed up the boarding process and make it simpler for customers to understand. Partners of British Airways, such as American Airlines, Qatar and Iberia, have reportedly used the boarding system for years. (ezr/asw)
