Owners of these houses are residents of Ngelepen Village who were victims of May 2016 earthquake.
Playfully named Teletubbies Hill is a rather new tourist site located one kilometer from Omah Domes Tourist Village, Yogyakarta.
Standing on the top of the hill offers a different view of dome-shaped houses in Omah Domes that have been painted in bright colors. From here, visitors can also see the beautiful sunset view at dusk.
The road to Teletubbies Hill is pretty smooth and the place has a parking lot, a small mosque and toilet.
Meanwhile, there are 15 Omah Domes homestay houses available for rent with a six-people capacity. Both Omah Domes and Teletubbies Hill are located only 15 kilometers from the centerof Yogyakarta.
Omah Domes however hasn’t always been this colorful. It was built around a year ago by the Indonesian government with the help from Domes for the World Foundation (DTFW) who partnered up with World Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (WANGO) and Emaar Properties, Dubai.
Owners of these houses are residents of Ngelepen Village who were victims of May 2016 earthquake. These dome houses are designed to be earthquake-resistant. One paint brand donated paints to turn Omah Domes into a rainbow village.
Currently this village offers visitors the opportunity to learn about Omah Domes batik and souvenirs such as keychains, pencil cases, ashtrays and refrigerator magnets.
If you want to visit Omah Domes and Teletubbies Hill you can participate in Shiva Jeep Adventure in Tebing Breksi that will take you to these two places as well as to other popular sites such as Prambanan Temple, Ratu Boko and Tebing Breksi. (asw)
