'ASEAN Week 2019' to feature art, tourism in South Korea

The event commemorates the 30th anniversary of the ASEAN-Republic of Korea (ROK) Dialogue Relations and the 10th anniversary of the ASEAN-Korea Centre.

Intergovernmental organization ASEAN-Korea Centre is set to hold ASEAN Week 2019 from June 14 to 16 at Seoul Plaza, South Korea.

The event commemorates the 30th anniversary of the ASEAN-Republic of Korea (ROK) Dialogue Relations and the 10th anniversary of the ASEAN-Korea Centre. The event also aims to enhance the awareness of ASEAN, especially leading up to the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit in November.

ASEAN Week 2019 will feature various events, namely the ASEAN-Korea Music Festival on June 14, ASEAN Fashion Festival on June 15 and ASEAN Travel Talk on June 16.

Visitors can also enjoy other activities that will be available throughout the event, such as ASEAN Cultural Performances presented by 70 performers from 10 ASEAN countries, ASEAN Lifestyle & Design Exhibition that will merge traditional and local culture, an ASEAN Tourism Promotion Booth and ASEAN Café.

The event’s opening ceremony, which will be held on June 14, will be attended by secretary general of the ASEAN-Korea Centre Lee Hyuk, Seoul's Mayor Park Won-soon and Singtong Lapisatepun, Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of Korea. Following the ceremony, the Music Festival will feature cultural performances and K-Pop singers, namely Kim Jun-su and The One.

Meanwhile, the Fashion Festival will be held on the next day by highlighting ASEAN designers, among them are Paul Direk from Thailand who had participated in the 2018 Vienna Fashion Week and Farhanna Pura from Brunei Darussalam who had taken part in the 2017 London Fashion Week. Set to combine traditional and contemporary ASEAN fashion, the outfits will be displayed on the runway by Nana Keum, Honorary Ambassador of the ASEAN-Korea Center, alongside ASEAN models. In the evening, singers Soyou and The One will hold special concerts.

Those who are interested in having an adventure in ASEAN countries are invited to join the Travel Talk on June 16. With My Trip to ASEAN as the theme, the event will provide sharing sessions on ASEAN tour sites and destinations by Korean celebrity Hwang Gwanghui and travel journalist Shin Iksu. Additionally, food tasting coupons will also be available for pre-registered visitors at the ASEAN-Korea Centre website and Naver Travel Plus Blog.

Lee Hyuk said in a statement that ASEAN Week 2019 will be the first official event conducted to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ASEAN-ROK Dialogue Relations. He encouraged people to participate in the event as they will be able to experience different aspects of ASEAN, from fashion and lifestyle to art, tourism and food. (wir/wng)
