ndonesia underlines the importance of inclusivity and a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific to build common prosperity and security in the region, Foreign Ministry officials have said.

The comments came as recent developments have highlighted the strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific region, which has become a theater of geopolitical rivalries between the United States and China.

Foreign Ministry chief of staff Achmad Rizal Purnama said Indonesia was “invested” in building regional architecture that fostered the spirit of inclusivity and a collaborative paradigm.

“We want to ensure that international laws are being upheld, a win-win paradigm is put forward and strategic trust [between countries] is being fostered so that the regional security architecture [in the Indo-Pacific] is truly inclusive, with no [country] seeing its interests or security undermined,” said Achmad in a press briefing on Thursday.

Achmad also referred to a speech delivered by Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi in Doha last month, highlighting the minister’s point that the post-World War II security architecture did not provide room for strategic trust or collaboration between countries to flourish.
