s Kuwait will soon celebrate its national day and the 55th anniversary of Indonesia-Kuwait diplomatic relations, the Gulf country is seeking ever-closer diplomatic relations with Indonesia.
The Kuwaiti Embassy to Indonesia’s charge d’affaires Abdullah Yateem Al Fadhli said that February was the month of celebration for Kuwait.
The 62nd national day falls on Feb. 25, the commemoration of which originated with the coronation of Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah in 1950, when Kuwait was still a British protectorate. Kuwait attained full independence on June 19, 1961, and Abdullah became the first emir of Kuwait after the country gained independence from the British.
On Feb. 26, Kuwait will celebrate its 32nd anniversary of Liberation Day, which marks the end of the Gulf War and removal of Iraqi forces from Kuwait in 1991.
Meanwhile, the establishment of Kuwait-Indonesia diplomatic relations started on Feb. 28, 1968, Al Fadhli said. “Our two nations, Kuwait and Indonesia, will celebrate 55 years of bilateral relationships [this year],” he said in a briefing at the embassy in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Al Fadhli said that the bilateral relations between the two countries are very “satisfactory” and had only improved and strengthened over time. “Leaders of both countries wanted our relations to improve in all aspects, be it politics, economics as well as investment,” he added.
He said that while Kuwait wanted to increase its economic investments in Indonesia, the Gulf country would also like for Indonesia to invest there as Kuwait is seeking to conduct massive development projects.
