resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is in Singapore on Wednesday to attend an annual sustainability forum, during which he will speak about investments in the development of Indonesia’s planned new capital Nusantara (IKN).
Global business leaders, policymakers, investors and civil society from across industries gather at Singapore’s annual three-day Ecosperity Week, held by the Temasek Foundation, to catalyze solutions for net-zero emissions and redirecting financing to climate action.
“I will use the event to attract investment, particularly for energy transition and green infrastructure, as well as [infrastructure projects] in the Nusantara Capital City,” Jokowi told a press briefing at Halim Perdanakusuma airbase on Wednesday morning before leaving for Singapore.
The government has gone all out in luring investment to Indonesia's new capital city project in East Kalimantan. Late last month, Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan hosted a group of Singapore-based investors who visited the IKN site and encouraged them to invest in infrastructure projects there. Also last month, Jokowi reeled in investment commitments from Japanese organizations for the IKN project during the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Hiroshima, Japan.
In Singapore, Jokowi, who is accompanied by First Lady Iriana, is also scheduled to pay a visit to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong later on Wednesday before flying to Malaysia for a reciprocal visit at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Jokowi said he would discuss several unfinished negotiations, including the land and maritime borders and Indonesian migrant workers’ protection.
Jokowi and his entourage will return to Indonesia on Thursday evening.
