Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was the first leader to congratulate Prabowo Subianto on his election victory after the General Election Commission’s (KPU) official announcement.
alaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim became the first world leader to congratulate Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto on Thursday after the official announcement by the General Elections Commission (KPU) on Wednesday evening confirming his presidential election win.
Also sending their congratulations on Thursday were Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida called Prabowo in addition to sending a letter.
"I have already contacted the President-elect of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Mr. Prabowo Subianto, to congratulate him on winning the presidential election that was just held in Indonesia," Anwar posted on his official X account on Thursday, as quoted by cnbcindonesia.com.
"I was told that I was the first leader to congratulate him after the official announcement."
Anwar said that Prabowo's victory was significant for his country due to the importance of the Indonesia-Malaysia relationship, given that the two are neighbors.
He expressed confidence in Prabowo's ability to lead Indonesia toward prosperity.
"The two of us are committed to strengthening bilateral relations in various aspects as neighboring countries, and we promise to work together in multilateral forums, especially within ASEAN," said Anwar.
