In the South American country, the President will likely seek to build a foundation for key international relationships and promote his administration’s priority programs, including the downstreaming of its critical minerals industry, analysts say.
Landing at the Jorge Chavez International Airport on Wednesday night, Prabowo and his entourage of ministers received a red-carpet welcome from several Peruvian officials, including Agrarian Development and Irrigation Minister Ángel Manuel Manero Campos and Deputy Head of State Protocol Sandra pinto La Fuente.
The Lima summit, themed “Empower, Include, Grow”, will unfold in the wake of the recent US election, with Republic president-elect Donald Trump expected to usher in global economic changes.
Prabowo is slated to deliver a keynote address on Thursday evening, Peru time. Other speakers at the summit are to include Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Vietnamese President Lương Cường.
Prabowo’s debut appearance at the annual event will give the President a good opportunity to introduce himself to international leaders, analysts say, especially with the slew of bilateral meetings set to take place during the summit.
