P

resident Prabowo Subianto received letters of credence from eight new foreign ambassadors in a ceremony at the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday.

The diplomatic tradition, marking the start of each envoy’s time in Indonesia, was an opportunity to strengthen Indonesia’s diplomatic relations with its closest partners, a release from Prabowo’s Gerindra Party said.

The eight new ambassadors are Roderick Brazier of Australia, Phillip Taula of New Zealand, Roberto Colaminè of Italy, Faysal Ahmed Salad of Somalia, Enrique Antonio Acuña Mendoza of Venezuela, Luis Arellano Jibaja of Ecuador, Ramil Rzayev Abil Oglu of Azerbaijan and Ivana Golubović-Duboka of Serbia.

The Tuesday event saw a stately opening which included a marching band.

Australian ambassador Brazier said it was “an immense honor to represent Australia as ambassador to Indonesia”.

Brazer previously was deputy secretary at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, responsible for development and multilateral issues. He speaks fluent Indonesian, having lived and worked in Jakarta for several years, according to the Australian Embassy in Jakarta.

“Australia and Indonesia share an unbreakable bond, and I look forward to our partnership becoming closer, stronger and more mutually beneficial,” Brazier said, as quoted from a press release from the embassy.
