he Higher Education, Science and Technology Ministry has pledged to support Indonesian students currently enrolled at Harvard University following a controversial move by United States President Donald Trump to bar the world-renowned institution from accepting international students.
Higher education minister Brian Yulianto stated on Tuesday that his office would ensure that affected students receive the necessary assistance should the situation deteriorate.
“We will look into it, and if there is a problem, we will certainly help,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
The minister added that the government was closely coordinating with the education and cultural attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, DC, to monitor developments.
This comes after US federal judge Allison Burroughs temporarily blocked the implementation of the policy on May 23, following a swift legal challenge from Harvard University.
The Foreign Ministry’s citizen protection directorate confirmed that it is also keeping a close eye on the situation, maintaining communication with the 87 Indonesian students currently enrolled at the Massachusetts-based university.
