ne Indonesian victim of the Tai Po fire remains unaccounted for, the Foreign Ministry revealed, as pressure mounts in Hong Kong for a full investigation more than a week after the deadly blaze.
A total of 129 Indonesian citizens have been confirmed as survivors of the fire, according to the ministry’s latest data, with nine dead and one still receiving hospital treatment.
The death toll from Hong Kong’s 43-hour fire has climbed to 159, authorities said on Thursday, as search teams continue combing through the charred apartment complex in the city’s northern district, once home to nearly 5,000 residents.
With some 30 people still reported missing and intense domestic scrutiny, police have been working across the site to gather human remains, carefully collecting fragments intact enough for DNA testing.
Among those reported missing is an Indonesian citizen employed as a domestic helper, the Foreign Ministry confirmed to reporters on Thursday.
“The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong continues to coordinate with local authorities, employment agencies and other relevant parties to search for missing Indonesian citizens,” the consulate said in a statement the same day.
