oreign Minister Sugiono is currently in Oslo advancing Indonesia’s cooperation with Norway in several aspects, including sustainability, agriculture, trade and investments, as the country seeks closer ties with the Scandinavian country in a bid to bolster President Prabowo’s flagship domestic programs.

Indonesia and Norway are key partners in a “rules-based world”, particularly in the areas of environment and international peace, Sugiono said alongside his Norwegian counterpart Espen Barth Eide.

Sugiono arrived in Oslo earlier this week. The minister was slated for a bilateral meeting with Eide aimed at strengthening cooperation in strategic sectors between the two countries.

The meeting took place ahead of the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-Norway diplomatic ties, which were established on Jan. 25, 1950.

During their meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on a wide spectrum of topics, including environmental, ocean and energy issues. Both envoys also talked about various regional and global affairs, such as the Middle East, as well as reforms in the United Nations and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Also during the meeting, Eide expressed his “deepest sympathy” for people affected by the northern Sumatra disasters. Tropical Cyclone Senyar, which formed over Malacca Strait, made landfall in Sumatra on Nov. 25, unleashing extreme rain and winds that triggered flooding and landslides, which have killed at least 770.

Sugiono outlined several areas of potential cooperation between both countries, including the procurement of 80,000 solar panels for the Red and White Cooperatives program, one of President Prabowo’s flagship programs aimed at providing self-sufficiency in energy for rural areas, among other goals.
