Indonesian students from Diponegoro University and North Sumatra University won three golds and two silver medals at the prestigious Archimedes competition in Moscow.
eams of Indonesian students from Diponegoro University (Undip) and North Sumatra University (USU) won three gold and two silver medals at the XXII Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies “Archimedes” , which was held from March 26 to 29.
One gold, as well the grand prize, was won by the USU student team for its innovation titled "Bio Discbrake Pads: Innovation of Organic Brake Pads Based on Candlenut Shell Waste Reinforced Polyurethane Composite", which makes use of candlenut shells to create a heat-resistant brake.
Meanwhile, the other two golds were won by the Undip student team through two innovations, namely "Poshaging (Power Saving Shaking for Charging)" and "Sun and Rain Innovation Roof (SRI Roof)". The work also received the Leading Innovation Award from Macao Innovation and Invention Association as well as the Special Award from the Chinese Innovation and Invention Society.
The Indonesian delegation, which was supported by the Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association (INNOPA), sent five teams to the competition and exhibition. The five teams consisted of one USU team and four Undip teams with 24 students in total.

In appreciation of their achievement, M. Wahid Supriyadi, the Indonesian ambassador to Russian Federation and Belarus Republic, received the participants at the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow on Sunday.
“Besides making the country proud, the Indonesian students participation also tightens the relation between Indonesia and Russia,” Wahid said.
The Archimedes competition and exhibition is an annual innovation event held in Moscow. This year's event exhibited 800 innovations from 22 participating countries. (gis/kes)
