wo students from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) drowned in Ciapus River near Jl. Lengkeng, Dramaga, Bogor, West Java, on Sunday. The incident occurred while they were cleaning up the riverbank.
The two victims are Dandi Firdaus, a second semester student from the civil engineering and environmental studies program, and Fadli Zikri, a sixth semester student from the computer science department.
IPB communication bureau head Yatri Kusumastuti said the incident occurred while the two students were participating in an activity held by IPB’s Al Hurriyah Campus Dakwah (missionary endeavour) Institution (LDK). The participating students ended their activity by jointly cleaning up the Ciapus riverbank.
Fadli reportedly jumped into Ciapus River after his belongings fell into the river but did not resurface. Dandi then jumped into the river in an attempt to save his friend. He also did not resurface.
The LDK participants reported the incident to IPB campus security unit personnel, who then contacted the Dramaga Police. Supported by local residents, police officers searched for the two students. Both were found dead at 2:20 p.m. on Sunday in a location not far from where they reportedly disappeared. The bodies of the two students were later taken to Karya Bakti Pratiwi Hospital in Dramaga, Bogor.
“Their bodies will be returned to their families on Monday. Dandi comes from South Sumatra while Fadli is from Pariaman in West Sumatra,” said Yatri. (ebf)
