he fifth lap of Tour de Singkarak (TdS) 2017 was won by Venezuelan cyclist Yonnata Alejandro Monslave. It was the most challenging lap so far with the route that started from Solok City and then headed to Padang Aro and South Solok in West Sumatra. The race was conducted on Nov. 22.
Monslave finished the 153.2-kilometer route in three hours, 57 minutes and 10 seconds.
“The result is in line with the team’s strategy. We had been trying since the fourth lap but it wasn’t until today that I’m able to achieve the target,” said Monslave.
At around 40 kilometers after the starting point, cyclists passed through a tea plantation and then traveled to Bawah Lake which is one of West Sumatra’s tourism icons.

The traditional Gadang Houses in this area are hundreds of years old, some were even built in 1700s.
The result from the fifth lap changed the general rankings of the race. Ghader Mizbani of Tabriz Shahrdary Team Iran who had been dominating the game since the second lap was being replaced by Daniel Whitehouse.
Mizbani had to give back the yellow jersey since he was unable to continue the race due to the injury that he got while competing in the second lap.
Up until the last lap, Whitehouse of CCN Cycling Team scored a total time of 17:17:07, followed by Monslave with a total time of 17:24:55.
“Today’s race was pretty heavy but I managed to take over the yellow jersey and I’m going to try my best to maintain this position,” said Whitehouse.
After the fifth lap, participants of Tour de Singkarak 2017 who came from 29 countries still have four more laps to tackle. (asw)
