According to the 10-year baseline from 2010 to 2020, Pertamina Group has reduced emissions by 27.08 percent, surpassing the target of 20 percent.
Pertamina managed to cut GHG emissions by reducing emissions from its operational and production activities, including the utilization of gas flares and the Langit Biru (Blue Sky) program that encourages public use of low carbon fuel.
Based on the achievements, Pertamina Group received six awards at the 2021 Corporate Emission Awards, including the Green Elite category for Non-Banking Corporate SOE Emission Reduction and the Gold Plus category for Non-Banking SOE Emission Calculation Transparency.
Other categories also awarded to PGN include Green Elite category for Non-Banking Corporate Emissions Reduction, Green Elite category for Non-Banking SOE Corporate Emissions Decrease, Silver Plus category for Non-Banking Corporate Emissions Calculation Transparency, and Platinum Plus category for Non-Banking SOE Corporate Emissions Calculation Transparency Platinum Plus.
The 2021 Corporate Emission Awards event was held virtually on April 29 by Investor Magazine and Berita Satu Media Holdings in collaboration with PT Bumi Global Karbon (BGK).
Berita Satu Media Holdings News Director Primus Dorimulu said that companies that can sustainably reduce carbon emissions should be appreciated for their contribution to saving the environment.
He further explained that emission reduction will provide a positive effect on climate change, reducing GHG emissions and creating sustainable economic growth.
The awards operate on eight categories for company transparency on emission calculations: Platinum Plus, Platinum, Gold Plus, Gold, Silver Plus, and Silver. Meanwhile, the Green Elite and Green awards are handed to companies that have managed to show a decrease in emission levels from their 2019 results.
"The calculation and reduction of emissions are based on data from the 2019 sustainability report that was published in 2020 and is made available on each company's official website. Assurance on emission calculations is also a criteria for the assessment," he said.
Pertamina acting SVP Corporate Communication & Investor Relation, Fajriyah Usman said the company welcomes the awards and will intensify its efforts to reduce emissions in support of the government’s target to cut emissions by 29 percent by 2030.
"The 2021 Corporate Emission Awards is proof that Pertamina's efforts in reducing emissions are acknowledged by stakeholders, and that will be our motivation to pursue bigger targets," Fajriyah said.
