Sal Priadi, Nadin Amizah, and Kunto Aji captures raw emotions in Limina | Limen Limina | Limen was born out of the global situation at hand, where the pandemic has forced millions to stop and reflect on their lives. Even so, there is no mention or hint of the disease at any point. The viewer might not even pick up that COVID-19 was the impetus, yet the film is a deeply reflective medium to which they can relate.

P

art of IM3 Ooredoo’s Collabonation program, Limina | Limen is written and directed by celebrated theater director Yudi Ahmad Tajudin. The 45-minute movie stars musicians Sal Priadi, Nadin Amizah and Kunto Aji as the main characters.

Limina | Limen is split into three parts, titled Reflection, Purification and Transformation. Each stage is distinct in their tones, at times longing or even despondent, yet still filled with the desire and drive to forge a path forward.

The story itself is a tale of loss, powerlessness and the human resilience in the face of peril and obstacles — something perhaps every viewer might have related to over the course of the last year. At the same time, the themes are presented in an indirect, interpretive way allowing the viewer to create a personal connection to the work.

Collaborating the fine arts, theater, music and dance, Limina | Limen is perhaps best described as part performance art. Wordless choreography is performed to installations serving as backdrop, with only the singers’ tunes guiding each motion.  Sal, Nadin and Kunto certainly shine, perfectly capturing the raw emotions of each segment with a strong delivery that complements the visuals.

Yudi Ahmad Tajudin’s Limina | Limen masterfully blends the best of Indonesia’s arts scene in a striking display of sound, sight and personal reflection.

Beyond the situational reasons for the film, Limina | Limen is a timeless piece that speaks to humanity at large. It is an immersive experience that is both emotional and experimental in its approach to handling complex moods, certainly something viewers should watch in order to reflect on their own experiences.

Collabonation’s first musical theater film, Limina | Limen is IM3 Ooredoo’s exploration of new formats to entertain both art aficionados and fans alike, and is meant to entertain audiences and provide them with the spirit to rise from challenging situations and keep on creating.
