ovo Nordisk has been named one of the Best Places to Work in Indonesia for 2021. A leading global healthcare company from Denmark, it describes its corporate culture as open, honest, ambitious and accountable. The company offers opportunities for people to live up to their full potential, while also giving them room to find their work-life balance. By having a strong business mindset, Novo Nordisk focuses on long-term solutions and does compromise on the quality it has maintained since its inception in 1923.

“We are a proud life-science company on a mission to ensure that people living with chronic diseases can live a full life. Millions rely on us. From our colleagues in the lab, working to change lives through pioneering breakthrough treatments, to our colleagues putting sustainability at the core of our processes and working to prolong the life of our planet, this mission to improve lives is at the core of our every action,” Rani Siswadi, Novo Nordisk Indonesia people and organization director, said when asked about the organization.

The company strives to continuously develop employees’ leadership skills and critical capabilities as a recipe to outdo its competition and to ensure high-quality performance from each one of its team members. In order to do this, it has implemented a balanced approach between classroom training, on-the-job training, as well as mentoring and/or coaching programs to make sure everyone can access help and pursue personal and professional development in whatever stage they are in.

“All of these resources are available to each employee when they join the company because we strongly believe that in order for a person to grow professionally, they must also grow personally. And here at Novo Nordisk, we like to believe that all our employees are equipped with the right tools and resources to be the best at what they do and achieve our objective, which is helping our patients,” Rani explained.

Furthermore, employees are offered an advanced learning management system and a digital platform that provides a wide range of development options. During the pandemic, Novo Nordisk not only provided physical precautions for its employees but also championed their mental health. The company globally activated the Employee Assistance Program for employees and family members.

Moreover, the company held virtual engagement sessions for employees and family members to educate and equip them with important knowledge to help them navigate this pandemic successfully, providing it in a fun and entertaining way. The company also offered private vaccines to employees and family,  to help the government distribute vaccines more quickly.

“Ever since the beginning of the pandemic, we have had four priorities: the safety of our employees, safeguard our patients, manage the business today and develop the business of tomorrow,” Rani added.

Employees are taken care of while they are in the office, and when they are home with their respective families.

Novo Nordisk periodically provides employees with hygiene kits, especially face masks, vitamins and sanitizers. It is also offering ergonomic support to help them set a healthy working station at home. When the healthcare system in Indonesia was almost in collapse because of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, employees who needed specific attention, such as 24/7 self-isolation and oxygen concentrators, did not need to look elsewhere because these are provided by their employers.

In order to improve patients’ lives as a globally leading healthcare company, Novo Nordisk believes in putting people first, whether it’s the people who need its medication or its workers. It believes that when workers are happy, that’s when they can perform the best. This is why it wants to ensure that every employee can achieve a work-life balance that supports their current priorities and where they want to go next —a quality that sets them apart from the “hustle culture” that’s been promoted all over the country, especially in Jakarta.

“We value our employees for the unique skills, backgrounds and perspectives they bring to the table. We work continuously to help bring out the best in all of our people, offering opportunities for development and creating an environment of mobility within the company,” Rani concluded. “So, if you strive for excellence like we do, and have a clear patient-centric mindset, then we’re looking forward to talking to you and potentially you will have a life-changing career in Novo Nordisk.”
