icro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have been the backbone of Indonesia, contributing as much as 61.87 percent of the country’s total gross domestic product (GDP). To support the sector, the Customs and Excise Directorate General facilitates the customs clearance process for small businesses, in order to help them to grow their market in Indonesia and abroad.

The Bogor Customs and Excise Office is leading by example with the export of tempeh products belonging to PT Azaki Food International on April 4, as reported by the head of the sub-directorate of public relations and customs counseling, Hatta Wardhana, on Friday. Since the company’s establishment, the company has been able to remain afloat through the pandemic and was able to grow to employ 50 local people.

"Previously, this Azaki tempeh product had entered the Japanese market, we really appreciate this considering the company has worked hard, so that Indonesian specialties can become known abroad. We hope that the company's synergy with Bogor Customs and Excise Office can be well established so that the company can explore a wider market," said Hatta.

Meanwhile the counterpart in Yogyakarta is supervising the packing and export of 2,742 boxes of hospital beds and hospital furniture products belonging to PT Mega Andalan Kalasan. It is reported that the export value amounts to Rp 11.42 billion (US$768,438). The Sleman-based company previously exported 195.3 tons of hospital beds and furniture to Australia and Japan throughout June of this year.

Hatta revealed that PT Mega Andalan Kalasan is one of the companies receiving the bonded zone facility under the supervision of the Yogyakarta Customs and Excise Office. The facility is usually offered to industrial companies whose product sales orientation is toward exports and are sold to other bonded zones. Having a place in the facility allows companies various conveniences, including suspension of import duties and exemption from PPN, PPnBM and Article 22 PPh.

"We hope that the export release activities of these two companies can spur and increase the enthusiasm of other MSMEs to be able to introduce their products to the international arena," concluded Hatta.
