LG aims to improve literacy of Indonesia’s younger generation

ith the need for transformation to achieve a more sustainable future, the Indonesian government has been relentless in its mission to increase public literacy. LG Electronics Indonesia supports the campaign, as it lines up with one of the company’s pillars, which is the endless pursuit to innovate and help consumers.

One of LG’s initiatives, LG Loves Children, further displays this message through the distribution of reading book packages for early childhood education (PAUD) across Indonesia.

"In addition to growing insight through good literacy skills, children learn life values that will be useful for the development of Indonesian society in the future," said Lee Taejin, President of LG Electronics Indonesia.

Recently, LG reiterated its commitment by signing a memorandum of understanding with the Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry. As one of the main points in this agreement, the company will distribute children's reading book packages to 330 PAUD programs across Indonesia. The number 330, Lee Taejin said, represents the amount of time LG has been in Indonesia, which has reached 33 years.

LG Loves Children is a manifestation of the brand’s corporate social responsibility, which is to encourage and empower the children of Indonesia. The program is housed under the umbrella of the brand’s wider campaign of social care in Indonesia, LG Loves Indonesia.

Apart from LG Loves Children, the campaign has three other initiatives; LG Loves Green, which focuses on supporting the creation of a sustainable environment, LG Loves School, which prioritizes supporting education and LG Love and Care, which was created to improve the welfare of the Indonesian people.

As written in the memorandum of understanding that was agreed upon by both parties, each PAUD program will receive four book packages each, containing three books for young children. LG will also be involved in the development and preparation of two books that will be distributed.

The two books, entitled “Lilo and Gina's Tomato Plants” and “Let's Get to Know Shapes!”, are the result of a collaboration between LG and the education ministry, whose content development adapts to the needs of children at the early childhood education level.

Alongside the distribution of these books, LG and the education ministry have also made a commitment to distribute books to teachers at the elementary school level. The books distributed are reference materials to support daily teaching and learning activities.

"We hope that all this support for early childhood and basic education can become capital for the growth of a better life for Indonesian people in the future," said Lee Taejin. He further stressed that the program is in line with one of LG's visions in its operations in various countries, called Better Life for All.
