Universitas Pancasila commemorates 57th year by graduating new batch of alumni

P

ancasila University celebrated in 57th anniversary by introducing its newest batch of graduates for the 2022/2023 academic year. Bearing the theme “A superior generation with a Pancasila spirit, as determinants of a Golden Indonesia 2045,” the day was a momentous one as the school granted certificates to 1,606 students who had succeeded in completing their education at various levels.

"In the future, all educational institutions must be able to produce potential human resources as a lever for achieving Golden Indonesia 2045. Therefore, Pancasila University always ensures the formation of basic student competencies in the field of entrepreneurship, mastery of foreign languages, as well as the development of skills in accordance with their respective knowledge,” stated the chancellor of Pancasila University, Prof. Dr. Edie Toet Hendratno, SH, M.Si., FCBArb.

He further specified that the university awarded certificates to 146 graduates of diploma programs, 1,143 graduates of undergraduate programs, 110 graduates of professional programs, 189 graduates of master's programs and 18 graduates of doctoral programs. Most of the students have also gained accolades outside of campus, with some pharmacy students gaining medals from the 2023 World Science, Environment and Engineering Competition (WSEEC), the Indonesia Young Scientist Association (IYSA), Kejuaraan Olimpiade Nasional Puskanas.id, and even the KONI Cup Indonesia in the 2022 Taekwondo Series-Kyorugi Poomsai.

Pancasila University invited Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mahfud MD, SH, SU, MIP, to present the scientific oration at the event. Among other topics, he discussed the importance of justice in a developing country, as well as the importance of Pancasila values.

Speaking to the press, Edie revealed that he was specifically delighted that the minister showed up because of his background, from growing up as a simple man, to one of the most important figures in the political landscape of Indonesia.

“Every citizen has the right to have any high ideals. But what is important is that these dreams must be achieved through persistent hard work, over the long term. Because high aspirations without hard work are just dreams. And to welcome Golden Indonesia 2045 there is no other work. Unless we work smartly, really in the long term,” said Edie.

He hoped that Minister Mahfud could motivate alumni when working in society to always prioritize honest and courageous attitudes and have the character of Pancasila values. He also added that he specifically picked Mahfud to give encouragement to the graduates who will face this new life based on his life story and his career advancement.

“Firstly, it is called Pancasila University. I came to emphasize this to all Indonesian people, to all of us, to the young people being educated at various universities. I spoke through Pancasila University to remember that we have the basic ideology of the Pancasila state, which unites us and advances us. Failure will occur in national and state development if we betray the foundations and ideology of this country. Believe me. Therefore, I convey the message from Pancasila to have universal values that are totally compatible with all the needs of various segments of Indonesian society,” said Mahfud on one of the two reasons he accepted the invitation to present the oration.

The second reason, he revealed, was the controversial ways he felt that the values have been used and violated. He wanted to emphasize that Indonesia is a great nation where different religions, races and ideologies are able to coexist and thrive under the Pancasila values that the country was founded upon. He stressed the importance of keeping those values intact, even as conflict rooted in the issue of religious and racial differences arises.

In recent years, Pancasila University has been active in producing professors in various fields of science. In 2022, the university received an award from LLDIKTI Region III as the university that confirmed the most professors, at eight. In the next month, three more are expected to join the educational institution.

The chancellor closed his speech by inviting all attendees to believe that persistence is a quality that we need to develop to achieve success and help overcome increasingly complex challenges. Meanwhile, Mahfud reminded students that Pancasila values consist of intelligence and character, as one cannot fully succeed without the other.
