ontinuing last year’s success, national gold mining company PT J Resources Asia Pacific, through its subsidiary PT J Resources Bolaang Mongondow (JRBM), has won the prestigious Subroto Award 2024 in Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) in the Most Innovative for Economic Independence category.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry awarded JRBM for its successful assistance to cocoa farmers under its guidance in developing fertilizers from biological natural resources. By using these biofertilizers, the farmers have reduced their spending on chemical fertilizers by about 80 percent.
In addition, biofertilizers help reduce carbon emissions in the agricultural sector, promote low-cost and environmentally friendly farming practices and advance the sustainability of agriculture.
“This program has been successful due to consistent support from the PPM team. Once farmers understand how to produce organic fertilizers, they can continue independently. We hope this knowledge will spread to other cocoa farmers outside the fostered group, including food crop farmers around the company. Through this program, the company consistently implements the ESG concept from the environmental and social aspects,” said Anang Rizkani Noor, president director of JRBM.
JRBM's success is part of the continuation of a five-year cocoa farmer development program, which last year also received the Subroto Award in the category of increasing community income.
This year's Subroto Awards were held to commemorate the 79th National Mining and Energy Day and to honor Professor Subroto, the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister from 1978 to 1988. The award is the highest recognition for contributions to advancing Indonesia's energy and mineral resources sector over the past year.
