The Jakarta administration is set to hold a vehicle tax penalty amnesty from Nov. 30 to Dec. 23 in a bid to boost tax revenue.
During the period, residents can pay overdue vehicle taxes and vehicle ownership transfer fees (BBNKB) without being charged late fees.
Residents can pay their vehicle taxes at a Vehicle Document Registration Center (Samsat) or through several banks.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the program was initiated to boost the city's income.
"The taxes will be used to finance the administration's programs," Anies said at City Hall on Wednesday.
There are 3,3 million two-wheeled and three-wheeled vehicles and 694,000 cars in the city with unpaid taxes.
The amount owed stood at Rp 1.7 trillion (US$125.6 million).
Anies added that during the amnesty, the city administration and the traffic police would hold raids to net motorists with unpaid vehicle taxes. (cal)
