The hotel chain operator inaugurated on Nov. 11 a Santika Hotel Premiere outlet on Jl. Ahmad Yani in the provincial capital of Padang. The property has 250 rooms but will only offer 120 for the time being.

The new outlet is Santika Indonesia’s third hotel in the province, where the company also runs the two-star Amaris Hotel in Padang and the three-star Hotel Santika in Bukittinggi, according to its website.

Hotel Santika Premiere Padang general manager Ainur Rofiq Mustamar said the hotel would be marketed to serve tourists, businesspeople and government officials. Many of these visitors came from Jakarta, Surabaya and Yogyakarta.

“They have begun to hold meetings and events at hotels and work visits to Padang. This is our target market,” he said at the opening ceremony, as quoted by Kompas newspaper.

The new outlet was opened as the government has eased its four-tier mobility restrictions (PPKM) across Indonesia amid declining COVID-19 caseloads.

In October, the government eased restrictions in Padang to PPKM level 2, which allows longer operating hours for markets, cafes and restaurants, among other changes.

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data shows that starred hotel occupancy rates in West Sumatra reached 34.2 percent in August this year, down from 39.36 percent in the same month last year, due to the restrictions. The rates are normally above 50 percent.
