T Cilacap Samudera Fishing Industry (ASHA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Melbourne Seafood Distributors (MSD) that will help it tap into the Australian retail market.
ASHA president director William Sutioso said the company aimed to export 800 tons of processed fish fillet blocks in a transaction valued at approximately US$5.5 million within the first year of the agreement.
The fish fillet would then be distributed through all MSD supermarkets and retail outlets in Australia.
He expected the value of the two companies’ cooperation to grow 20 percent to 25 percent annually.

“Australia has begun to open its borders to tourists, leading to spiking demand for seafood products, including fish fillet. Seeing this opportunity, we decided to sign an MoU to solidify a long-term contract plan,” he told reporters at the MoU signing ceremony in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He went on to say that Australia had bought a lot of fillet products from other countries in Southeast Asia. Ironically, the raw materials for these products were supplied by Indonesia, William noted.
