Indonesia's first high-speed rail service was disrupted for 15 minutes due the power issue.
akarta-Bandung high-speed rail (HSR) operator PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) said that two train trips were disrupted for about 15 minutes on Tuesday due to a power outage at state-owned electricity firm PT PLN’s Kiaracondong-Gedebage substation in West Java.
“All Whoosh high-speed trains are operating in a reliable condition and are rail-worthy, and we have not recorded any damage, since the trial period until the official operation period,” KCIC corporate secretary Eva Chairunnisa said on Wedneday.
Eva said the disruptions happened at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, affecting two trips, the G1126 train from Tegalluar heading to Halim and the G1123 train from Halim heading to Padalarang.
“After coordinating with PLN and once the electricity was back on Whoosh journeys returned to normal at 10:45 a.m.,” she said.
“KCIC apologizes for this inconvenience for Whoosh high-speed train passengers due to the service disruptions for 15 minutes.”
KCIC had increased the number of Whoosh trips from 14 to 25 trips per day beginning Oct. 25.
Eva said the schedule adjustment was adjusted in line with the increasing public interest in the Whoosh, touted to be the fastest rail service in Southeast Asia.
Since it first entered commercial operations on Oct. 17, Whoosh has served 58,000 passengers. The number of passengers using the service has reached an average of 7,200 passengers per day, with an occupancy rate of 90 percent per trip.
Along with the additional number of Whoosh journeys, KCIC has also provided extra feeder train services with stops at Padalarang, Cimahi and Bandung stations.
