A newly formed Nusantara-owned enterprise is slated to build a movie theater and a zoo in the future capital in East Kalimantan, while the government expects around 300 investors to ink cooperation deals after Independence Day.
he government is planning to appoint an enterprise belonging to the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority to build a movie theater and a zoo as part of wider push to create a buzz around the country’s future capital in East Kalimantan.
The newly formed public enterprise is slated to oversee construction of the two entertainment venues as well as other infrastructure, according to Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, who is currently doubling as the IKN Authority’s acting head.
“For example, cinemas, theaters, infrastructure built under the [Office of the] Coordinating Economic Minister […] on [Jl.] Sumbu Kebangsaan is to be used for retail. Those [facilities], as well as the zoo, will be managed by the Nusantara-owned enterprise,” Basuki said on Monday.

The enterprise was established upon transferring ownership in PT Bina Karya from the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry to the IKN Authority under Presidential Regulation No. 62/2022.
Unlike other region-owned enterprises, the new Nusantara-owned business is to operate directly under management of the central government and is to serve as the new capital’s lead developer. It is also permitted to form subsidiaries or joint ventures with other companies to attract investment and stimulate the local economy by meeting business and service needs.
The IKN Authority says it has fast-tracked investment permits, and that 14 out of 45 cooperation agreements it inked with investors have reached the groundbreaking stage.
