The Agriculture Ministry has signed a collaboration deal to enlist military and police support in pursuit of food security, one of President Prabowo's key policy programs.
he Agriculture Ministry has inked an agreement with the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police to allow their involvement in realizing President Prabowo Subianto’s aim to achieve food self-sufficiency.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman told a press briefing on Thursday that the Army would help with rice production, while the police would assist with corn production.
“[The Army] will be involved in assisting with rice, the police with corn, that’s the form of our collaboration,” said Amran, as quoted by to state-owned news agency Antara.
He also said the Villages and Regional Development Ministry had a separate collaboration for horticulture, but provided no details.

Amran said the deal between the ministry and the two security institutions would help the country to attain food self-sufficiency “as soon as possible, as fast as possible”, and that the collaboration would also involve regional administrations.
Preparation had been made to accelerate the food self-sufficiency program by ensuring the availability of fertilizers and agricultural equipment, with a view to kicking off the program as early as next year, he added.
