This came after Rosan said on Jan. 21 that he believed the tech giant was close to striking a deal over an investment package that would lift sales restrictions on the iPhone 16 in a matter of weeks.
he Investment and Downstream Ministry is expecting more Apple suppliers to build facilities in Indonesia as the tech giant unveiled an investment commitment of US$1 billion in an AirTag tracking device factory in Batam, Riau Islands.
Investment and Downstream Minister Rosan Roeslani said that the ministry was seeking to attract more Apple suppliers while also claiming that some new suppliers had proposed to invest in the archipelago.
“I’m in discussions. [With] another two or three [new suppliers],” he said on Tuesday to reporters at an event in Jakarta.
The minister highlighted that Indonesia only has one Apple supplier, far below peers like Vietnam, which is home to 34 suppliers.
Meanwhile, Indonesia led Southeast Asia in iPhone sales with 2.5 million units sold, generating Rp 30 trillion ($1.83 billion) in revenue for the tech giant, according to Industry Ministry data.
Rosan has assured that Apple’s investment in the country is progressing and “going well”.
“This [the number of suppliers] is only at the first stage. I’m sure it will keep growing,” he added.
