ndustry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita inaugurated on Thursday a Rp 1.5 trillion (US$91.4 million) solar panel factory at the Kendal Industrial Park in Central Java.
The plant is operated by PT Trina Mas Agra Indonesia (TMAI), a joint venture between Chinese solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturer Trina Solar Co. Ltd., Sinar Mas-backed PT Daya Sukses Makmur Selaras and the state electricity company’s subsidiary PT PLN Indonesia Power Renewables.
The integrated solar cell and panel production facility has an annual output capacity of up to 1 gigawatt (GW), making it the largest in the country, according to TMAI.
“This factory is ready to operate and utilizes i-TOPCon Advanced technology, the latest generation capable of producing solar panels with power up to 720 watts-peak (Wp) per panel and the highest efficiency in its class, reaching 23.2 percent,” TMAI deputy president director Lokita Prasetya said in a statement in Thursday.
In the same statement, Sinar Mas managing director Ferry Salman expressed his hope that the new facility would help accelerate growth of the domestic solar panel ecosystem, making it stronger and more competitive.
