Following the death of Grab driver-partner Rusdamdiansyah, also known as Dandi, on Aug. 29 in Makassar, South Sulawesi, the company moved to offer its condolences and ensure that the deceased’s family is thoroughly supported.
On Monday, Grab Group CEO & cofounder Anthony Tan flew directly from Singapore to Makassar, accompanied by Grab Indonesia's leadership, including chief financial officer Dion Soetadi, director of East Indonesia operations Halim Wijaya, chief of public affairs Tirza Munusamy, country marketing & communications head Melinda Savitri and OVO president commissioner Dyah NK Makhijani, to offer prayers, provide moral support and ensure the family receives comprehensive support.
"Grab wants to ensure that, through joy and sorrow, the family of the late Dandi never walks alone. Grab's support has been present from the beginning through compensation and logistical assistance to strengthen the family at this time. Support continues through health insurance, ensuring the family's well-being for the next two years through BPJS Kesehatan. And to strengthen their path for a longer period, Grab also provides support through joint venture capital with GrabKios, providing a new foundation for continuing hope," Anthony explained.
"The safety and security of our driver-partners has always been a top priority for Grab. We are committed to be a constant presence not only while our driver-partners are working, but also when they and their families are experiencing difficult times. Grab provides tangible support, from compensation to long-term support programs to ensure our driver-partners remain safe and protected. We are also ensuring long-term support for their next-of-kin, so that the families affected by this tragedy can face a little less hardship," he added.
As a broader protection measure, Grab is also introducing GERCEP (Grab Rapid Response), an additional emergency channel that allows driver-partners to report emergencies and receive immediate assistance that will be active on Sept. 2. GERCEP can be accessed through the emergency hotline 021 2350 7032, the Emergency Response HelpCenter page at grb.to/gercep, and a LiveChat service with dedicated agents. This initiative is designed to ensure every emergency report is handled more quickly and in a more structured manner.
Anthony also expressed his deep concern and condolences for the passing of driver-partner Affan Kurniawan in Jakarta, and prayed for the bereaved family to be given strength and fortitude. He also sent prayers for the recovery of driver-partners Moh. Umar Amarudin, who is being treated at Pelni Hospital in Jakarta, Aji Pratama at Tarakan Regional Hospital in Jakarta, and Budi Haryadi at Primaya Hospital in Makassar.
"Partners are never alone. We will continue to be present, accompanying and walking side by side with partners throughout Indonesia. Through joy and sorrow, I will always walk with them. Because ultimately, this is about humanity: caring for each other, strengthening each other and ensuring that no one faces difficult times alone," Anthony concluded.
