inance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa claimed that the government has collected nearly Rp 7 trillion (US$423 million) from taxpayers found in violation of tax regulations, as part of efforts to bolster state revenue.

The recovered funds are part of a much larger Rp 60 trillion ($3.6 billion) target currently being pursued by the Tax Directorate General from around 200 large taxpayers whose cases have received final and binding court rulings.

“It seems like some payments are being made in stages,” Purbaya said in Jakarta on Wednesday, as quoted by Kumparan.

Purbaya stated that he would continue pursuing the outstanding payments in coordination with the tax authority.

“I will monitor the speed of the payments. I have to speak with the [Finance Ministry’s] tax director general first. But I hope the majority will be received by the end of the year,” he added.

Previously, Purbaya had assured that tax authorities would intensify efforts to pursue tax defaulters in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, including the Attorney General's Office, the National Police, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). He also warned of “serious law enforcement action” against non-compliant taxpayers.
