ndonesia’s tax office reported that state revenue from the digital economy has reached Rp 43.75 trillion (US$2.6 billion) since 2020, as online purchases, financial-technology services and crypto asset trading continue to expand.

The Directorate General of Taxation (DJP) said the figure reflects combined receipts from four main channels: value-added tax (VAT) on digital goods and services sold through electronic systems (PMSE), taxes on crypto asset transactions, taxes on peer-to-peer (P2P) lending and taxes collected through the government procurement information system (SIPP).

VAT from PMSE platforms contributed the largest portion, amounting to Rp 33.88 trillion, followed by Rp 4.19 trillion from fintech lending, Rp 3.92 trillion from SIPP-collected taxes and Rp 1.76 trillion from crypto asset taxes.

DJP spokesperson Rosmauli said the government would continue strengthening oversight of digital economy taxation to ensure fairness and effectiveness.

“The Rp 43.75 trillion realization reaffirms that the digital economy has become one of the key drivers of state revenue,” Rosmauli said in a written statement on Wednesday.

As of October, the government had appointed 251 companies as PMSE VAT collectors. Of these, 207 platforms have actively collected and remitted digital VAT.
