he Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has begun construction of the 541-kilometer Dumai-Sei Mangkei (Dusem) gas transmission pipeline.
The official launch of the national strategic project was marked on Tuesday with the signing of the project’s Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract in Jakarta.
The pipeline will link gas sources in Java and Sumatra to key industrial zones across Aceh, North Sumatra and Riau. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, the state-funded infrastructure is expected to expand energy access and stimulate regional development.
“Infrastructure plays a crucial role as a driver of development and economic growth,” the ministry’s oil and gas director general, Laode Sulaeman, said on Thursday, as reported by Kumparan.
“The construction of the Dumai-Sei Mangkei pipeline aims to provide wider energy access for the industrial, commercial and public sectors, ensuring equitable energy distribution,” he added.
Officials expect the pipeline, which has a 20-inch diameter and a capacity of 109.2 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), to generate a significant multiplier effect by fostering industrial development and economic opportunities along the Belawan-to-Duri corridor.
